Midnighter #6 review

As we join the Authority’s enhanced urban vigilante, Midnighter is taking a break from his quest to learn who plucked the technological ‘flowers ‘ from the God Garden. Dinner with boyfriend Matt is interrupted by an aerial attack – the boys are OK, but Matt’s flat is wrecked. What to do than go country hopping […]

Superman #45 review

Clark Kent uses his skills as an investigative reporter to learn how computer crook Hordr_root fits into the apparent conspiracy against him. He’s lost his secret identity, been attacked from every quarter – it’s time to turn the tables, become the party with information, and the power. This issue a meeting with former Hordr worker […]

Secret Six #7 review

What’s the collective noun for mystics? Whatever is it, we need it for Secret Six #7, as pretty much all of DC’s magic-based heroes and villains hold a council of war. The problem? Black Alice, teenage sorceress and Secret Six member. We knew she borrowed power from magical users but it seems there’s a previously […]

Dr Fate #5 review

Now there’s an eye-catching cover, the latest in a series by artist Sunny Liew. Inside Liew’s subject is less whimsical, but the art is just as worthy of your time. Working with writer Paul Levitz, Liew presents a consistent, compelling world for Dr Fate. Or rather, worlds, as the book tends to move between the […]

Titans Hunt #1 review

Hard-luck hero Roy Harper is having feelings of deja vu. He can’t put his finger on it, but that T-shaped water tower reminds him of… something. When an Atlantean turns Dick Grayson’s latest mission for Spyral into a bloodbath, the unnatural whirlpool into which the stranger flees reminds the former Teen Wonder of… something. Newborn Amazon Donna […]

Superman/Wonder Woman #22 review

In this great issue! Lois bitches at Lana. Lana punches Lois. Superman decks Flash. Superman terrifies a prisoner transport team by ambushing them in their chopper. Wonder Woman follows up by slapping them with their sword. The pair kidnap the Parasite from the chopper. Wonder Woman smashes the chained villain in the kisser. Superman kicks […]

Retro review – Superboy #176 (July 1971)

Here’s another of those comics I saw as a kid but never managed to buy, but thanks to eBay, now I have it – so was it worth the wait? I love the cover, it’s a real grabber. Super-powered or otherwise unusual kids were a staple of the Superboy strip for decades, and Kathy here […]

Batman/Superman #25 review

Superman came to Gotham City on a motorcycle, but he leaves courtesy of borrowed Bat-technology. And he can’t resist putting the wind up Robo-Batman Jim Gordon as he leaves. The previous page is the last we see of the current holder of the Batman title in this issue of Batman/Superman, but I’m fine with that – Gordon […]

Superman: Lois and Clark #1 review

Lois, Clark and Jonathan are no ordinary family – mom and dad are refugees from another reality, while Junior is heir to an amazing heroic legacy … not that he knows it yet. For Lois and Clark haven’t told their young son that she was a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and he the greatest superhero on the […]

Batman and Robin Eternal #1 review

Too many sidekicks. That’s one of the problems with the current Batman mythos. The contracted continuity post-Flashpoint means that in just over five years Batman has brought Dick Grayson, Jason Todd and Tim Drake into the hero business. Damian Wayne showed up and claimed the Robin legacy. Barbara Gordon joined the fray as Batgirl, Stephanie […]
