In the 1970s two fantastic females ruled American TV – Jaime Sommers, the Bionic Woman, and Diana Prince, Wonder Woman. They never crossed over at the time but four decades later the crimefighters finally meet in the pages of a comic series, now collected in a single edition.  As a longtime team-up fan I expected […]

Having learned that she has a twin brother, Wonder Woman has located Jason in Greece, and it turns out that parentage isn’t the only thing they share.  They have questions. Diana wants to know why, given his foster father Glaucus told him of his background, he never sought out Diana. Jason wants to know why their […]

The mysterious Midnight has stolen Steel, sucked John Henry Irons through one of the mini-black holes that have popped up around Metropolis. When it tried to get Lois Lane, though, it failed. The injured Lois has managed to drag herself to the Steelworks, to warn Lana Lang, Superwoman, of the threat. There, she shocks Lana’s […]

It’s a quiet day for Supergirl. Well, quiet in that there’s no supervillain to fight. It’s pretty turbulent in terms of emotions, as she deals with the ramifications of recent events. Her birth father, Zor-El, corrupted and recreated as the Cyborg Superman, attacked National City. She took him out and sent him into custody, but […]

There’s not been much interesting comics news of late. I’ve been waiting… and waiting… for an announcement on new series for the Legion of Super-Heroes and Justice Society of America.  Instead, today, DC gave us this.  My first reaction? Oh Lord, no.  If I’m in the mood, I can enjoy some Brian Michael Bendis. His […]

Steve Rogers is back. He’s trying to restore Captain America’s good name after a Nazi Steve Rogers took over North America.  He turns up in a small town he saved from Nazi types ten years earlier in Marvel time, shortly after he emerged from his decades-long nap in a block of ice. He’s surprised to […]

Lex Luthor has been teleported against his will to Apokolips, where followers of the missing Darkseid believe he’s the dark lord’s successor. Lex’s robots on Earth have enacted a protocol that sends Superman after him along with, inadvertently, wife Lois and son Jon. Unfortunately, they’ve been split up by the Mother Box technology, scattered across […]

Baby Kal-El crashes in Kansas and kills Jonathan and Martha Kent.  A girl goes on a murder spree, possessed by the spirit of Wonder Woman.  A Gotham City worker slaughters his wife, egged on by a spectral Harley Quinn.  Bruce Wayne is taunted by the voice of the Joker, the one villain he can never […]

I’m not a car person. If invited to admire a vehicle I’m likely to mutter, ‘that’s a nice blue’. Chassis, horsepower and the like represent a mystery I’ve never wanted to solve.  So the fact that I near-gasped with joy at seeing the latest Batmobile as illustrated by penciller Alvaro Martinez and inker Raul Fernandez […]

It’s a case of infinite crises on Earth as Superman tries to stay on top of the conflict that’s broken out everywhere. This fourth chapter of the Oz Effect opens with Superman back in the nation of Logamba, where the rebels and authorities – influenced by Mr Oz – look set to destroy one another. […]
