It’s a couple of weeks to Hallowe’en, so time for some spooky chat. Bring on the Gentleman Ghost, one of the oldest villains in the DC Universe, who made a Bronze Age splash in Batman, heralded by suitably spooky Joe Kubert covers.
Billy D invited me onto his show, The Bronze Age of Horror Comics, to look at these two issues from 1979-80, when Len Wein was writing and Irv Novick was pencilling. If you’d like to look at Batman #310 and #319 with us and don’t have physical copies, but do have DC Infinite, you can find them both there. They’re not actually the creepiest of comics, but they are prime examples of Batman entering a new era and show how an almost-forgotten baddie can be revitalized by enthusiastic creators.
You can find the show at your podcaster of choice, or simply click on this eerie link. Happy Hallowe’en!
