If you’re a fan of comics podcasts you may be familiar with The Earth 2 Podcast, a weekly delight in which hosts Peter and David explore the origins and development of the DC Multiverse and the legacy of characters from the Golden Age of Comics. The two of them spin gold as they read through the issues and offer commentary and insight. It’s always fun, frequently fascinating.
Occasionally, though, the lads will do a full audio drama featuring an extended cast of podcasters and pals pulled in to bring a story to even more thrilling life. It’s a heck of a lot of work for Peter especially, who, as editor, pulls hundreds of lines from dozens of voice notes together into a working story. And I’d say it’s well worth the effort, especially if you’re reading along via the original comics, collection reprints or DC Infinite app.
Previous special projects have brought to life the JLA/JSA team-ups with the Seven Soldiers of Victory and the Freedom Fighters, and now we have, from 1976’s Justice League of America #135-137, Shazam’s Squadron of Justice and the threat of King Kull and the villains of three Earths. Extra points for spotting me in there.
With one episode per issue, and a wrap-up full of behind-the-scenes secrets, the Earth 2 Podcast guys have produced a corker of a mini-series. Start listening at Podbean by clicking on this link, or find the fun at Apple Podcasts or via your favourite podcatcher, and subscribe for more. If you get a chance, let David and Peter know what you thought over at The Earth 2 Podcast on Facebook, or X, @Podcast_Earth2 – tell ‘em Ibis sent you!
