JSApril is coming

Eighty-five years ago the face of comics was changed forever. A crowd of individual heroes became a group. A society. The Justice Society of America.

The Green Lantern, the Flash, the Hawkman, the Spectre, the Atom, the Sandman, the Hour-Man and Dr Fate met for dinner and tagalong Johnny Thunder suggested they swap stories of β€˜the most exciting experience you ever had’.

Soon the exchange of stories was succeeded by missions involving all the members of the newborn JSA – yes, All-Star Comics was still made up of solo adventures, but there was an umbrella threat to the good old US of A. And of course, the true-blue heroes were always up to the challenge.

The super-team had been born and imitators such as the All-Winners Squad, Seven Soldiers of Victor and Fawcett’s one-off Crime Crusaders Club began popping up. Over the following eight decades we’ve seen the likes of the Avengers, Defenders, Freedom Fighters, an entire Legion of Super-Heroes and, of course, the JSA’s spiritual successors, the Justice League of America.

And it all began in All-Star Comics #3, cover-dated Winter 1940. And soon, to celebrate 85 years of the world’s first super team, it’ll be JSApril – more than three dozen podcasters and bloggers from all over the world will pay tribute, in one way or another, to the JSA.

Every participant in JSApril is doing their own thing, so whether you choose to enjoy just one entry or experience them all, there’s something special for everyone. Get ready for an all-star month of beloved characters, fascinating insights, and incredible stories!

Keep an eye out for the #JSApril hashtag on the socials, or use it to search for Justice Society memories – you won’t regret it!

I’ll be covering a very obscure Justice Society story, so keep an eye out for that!

  1. Love this idea!

    I’ll check β€˜em out!

it would be super cool if DC did something to celebrate the team, but maybe just giving them a comic again is something to celebrate. πŸ™‚
