Podcast Plugtime – Treasurycast

Who remembers the Marvel Treasury Editions of the Seventies? I remember them being advertised in the Marvel UK weeklies, but I never saw them in the shops. Happily, comics shops and eBay mean it’s relatively simple to find them in readable condition, even though they can be pricey.

So it is that I recently got hold of Marvel Treasury Edition #3, The Mighty Thor. Published in 1974, it collects prime Stan Lee and Jack Kirby Thor tales from the Silver Age, with the big selling point being that it stars the Prince of Power, Hercules. As for Goldilocks himself, while Thor is a tad angsty at the start of the story, he’s soon at his best so far as nobility and power goes.

I would write more, but you can hear me talk about this comic with the excellent Rob Kelly on the latest episode of his Treasurycast show, which looks at comics published in the legendary tabloid format.

Tune in by searching for Treasurycast at your favourite podcatcher or by clicking on this link, where you can listen to or download the show, and leave a comment – Rob and I would love to hear what you think of this issue. And if you want to see some images from the issue, Rob’s gallery page can be found here.
